Looking for a solid day of inshore fishing without burning your whole weekend? Captain Horte's half-day charter out of South Shore, Massachusetts delivers exactly what you're after. This 5-hour private trip puts you right in the heart of some of the best striper and bluefish waters on the East Coast. We're talking Hingham Bay, Hull, Weymouth, Quincy, and Boston Harbor - spots that consistently produce fish when you know how to work them. Everything's included from tackle to bait to licenses, so you just show up ready to fish. Whether you're a seasoned angler or bringing the kids for their first real fishing experience, this trip works for everyone.
This isn't your typical party boat situation - you're getting a true private charter experience with Captain Horte calling the shots. The boat holds up to 6 people, but honestly, 4 is the sweet spot for comfort and fishing room. You'll launch with flexible departure times (just give them a heads up if you need something specific), and spend your 5 hours hitting the most productive spots based on current conditions. The South Shore offers incredible variety - one minute you're working structure in Hingham Bay, the next you're drifting Boston Harbor looking for bluefish blitzes. Captain Horte knows these waters inside and out, reading tide charts, weather patterns, and seasonal movements to put you on fish. If you're having a killer day and want to extend the trip, they offer additional hours for $120 each.
The beauty of this inshore fishery is the variety of techniques that work. Depending on conditions and what the fish are doing, you might be live lining pogies, casting topwater plugs during a surface bite, or working jigs along bottom structure. All gear comes provided, but if you've got favorite rods or lures, bring them along. Captain Horte runs quality tackle that can handle everything from schoolie stripers to trophy-sized bass pushing 40+ inches. Bait selection varies by season - you might be using sea worms, pogies, or mackerel depending on what's working best. The captain and crew handle rigging, re-baiting, and netting fish so you can focus on the fight. These South Shore waters offer great structure fishing around rocky points and drop-offs, plus open water opportunities when baitfish are schooled up.
"We fished 3 days with Captain Dave and his deck hand Steve. These guys are pros and very informative all day looong. We caught striped bass, haddock, cod, our limit of 15 lobster, and many other fish with these Boston guys!! My daughter, cousins, and friends have made lasting memories with bluelines fishing charters." - Mark
"Captain Dave and his first mate Steve were absolutely phenomenal! I booked this trip for family coming into town every though it's not typical fishing season (for us general folk), but we were not disappointed. It was a chillier day and the forecast called for high winds. Capt Dave was so communicative and offered recommendations to make the trip a better experience beforehand. Capt Dave and Steve were so kind and knowledgeable, it was clear they are not only good at what they do, but they love and respect the sport." - Jackie
"We had the best morning with Capt. Dave and mate Matt! It was my birthday and wanted to take my grandkids fishing, and they both caught big strippers! Will definately return and Recommend to anyone especially with kids, they learned so much from them!" - Susan
Striped Bass are the bread and butter of Massachusetts inshore fishing, and for good reason. These fish are smart, strong, and absolutely beautiful when you get them to the boat. South Shore stripers typically range from schoolie size (18-28 inches) up to legitimate trophy fish over 35 inches and 20+ pounds. Peak season runs from May through October, with some of the best action happening during spring and fall migrations when big schools move through. Stripers are structure-oriented fish - they love rocky points, drop-offs, and anywhere baitfish get pinned up. What makes them so exciting to target is their aggressive feeding behavior when conditions are right. You might see them crashing bait on the surface or feel that distinctive head shake when one picks up your offering near bottom.
Bluefish bring a completely different energy to your fishing day. These are pure predators - aggressive, fast, and always looking for a fight. Massachusetts bluefish typically run from "snapper" size (1-2 pounds) up to "chopper" blues that can hit 10+ pounds and provide serious battles on appropriate tackle. Summer months are prime time for blues, especially when they're feeding in schools and creating those surface feeding frenzies that get every angler's heart racing. Blues will hit just about anything - topwater plugs, spoons, chunk bait, live pogies - but they're also notorious for their razor-sharp teeth and acrobatic jumps. When you hook into a good bluefish in open water, you're getting one of the most exciting fights in inshore fishing.
Here's the deal - quality charter fishing books up fast, especially during peak season. Captain Horte's operation has built a solid reputation for putting clients on fish while providing a professional, enjoyable experience on the water. The combination of local knowledge, quality equipment, and genuine passion for fishing creates exactly the kind of day you're looking for. Whether you're planning a family outing, corporate event, or just want to get away from the dock fishing crowds, this private charter delivers. With everything included and flexible scheduling, there's really no reason to wait. South Shore fishing is world-class, and this is your chance to experience it the right way with a captain who knows how to make it happen.

Awesome day on the water. Capt Dave and first mate Matt went above and beyond to get us on the fish. This is my second year in a row booking with them and we are already looking forward to the next trip.

Blues are pure aggression with fins. These blue-green torpedoes average 3-8 pounds but fight like they're twice that size. They roam open water and shorelines in schools, absolutely demolishing baitfish in feeding frenzies we call "bluefish blitz." Summer into early fall is when they're most active here on the South Shore. What guests love? The non-stop action when you find a school - they'll hit anything that moves. Their razor-sharp teeth and attitude make every hookup exciting. Smaller blues are excellent table fare with mild, flaky meat. Pro tip: use wire leaders - those teeth will cut through mono in a heartbeat. When you see churning water and diving gulls, get your lures in there fast.

Stripers are the backbone of our South Shore fishing. These silver beauties with their distinctive dark stripes typically run 20-40 pounds around here, though we see some real giants pushing 50+. They love structure - rocks, drop-offs, bridge pilings - and patrol the shallows looking for baitfish. Spring through fall is prime time, especially during their migration when they're feeding heavily. What makes them special? They fight hard, pulling drag and making runs that'll test your skills. Plus, they're fantastic eating with sweet, flaky meat. My local tip: watch for birds diving - that's where the bait is, and stripers won't be far behind. The tidal changes around our bridges and jetties are money spots.
